Friedrich August Craemer (1812-1891) began a ministry among American Indians in
Frankenmuth, Mich., in 1845, which lasted about eight years. He participated in the
ordination of Claus Laurits Clausen, called to be the Muskego congregation's first pastor.
Craemer started a school for children that had a peak enrollment of about 30, and the
first baptisms occurred during Christmas of 1846. The mission folded because the federal
government kept moving the tribes farther west as White settlers continued to encroach on
their land.
