| The first American Lutheran Seminary, Hartwick, was founded in New York City in 1797.
Later it moved to Oneonta, New York and in 1926 added a college. Theological education at
the institution ended in 1941. John C. Hartwick willed his large land holdings to start a
seminary to train missionaries and any American Indian who wanted to become a student
there. |
