Workshops
SESSION IV - AUGUST
9
11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
News Media Mentoring
Presenter: Frank Imhoff
Work with staff of the ELCA News Service and fellow communicators to
tell stories of what Lutherans are about to those outside the
church, but in your territory. A few key contacts could boost your
relationships with the news media. Learn how to work with
journalists to make their jobs and yours easier.
The BYOC (Bring
Your Own Camera) workshop
Presenter:
Michael D. Watson
This will be a “hands on” workshop. No slideshows or
lectures. You are going to learn by doing. You know when you have to
take that photo of the bishop, and you find the nearest wall and
take the photo? Yeah, but not today! We are going to show you how to
take better portraits with any camera you are currently using. Be
ready for tips, tricks and fun -- and bring your own camera.
The Care and
Feeding of Your Audience
Presenters:
Kate Elliott, Terri
Lackey and Audrey Riley
We have many things we want to communicate to our
audiences and many things we want them to do, but how do we serve
them? Once we get to know our audiences, how do we advocate for
them? Learn how the staff of Lutheran Woman Today connects all its
stakeholders: the women’s organization, the church, the writers and
most importantly, the readers.
Video Production Basics
Presenters:
Jamila
Paksima
Our keynote speaker will present a workshop on basic video
production, including shooting, editing and some tips on the
equipment you'll need. Though her field experience, Jamila will also
share some of the video techniques she has learned to help make your
next video production go smoothly.
Building ELCA Identity:
Brand Mark and Advertising
Presenter:
Ben McDonald Coltvet and Kristi Bangert
"God’s work. Our hands." ELCA communicators have a
powerful message to convey: how God is at work in this church and in
the world. Learn how your synod and congregations can implement the
new ELCA tagline, graphic standards and advertising in your area.
