Communication in the Lower Susquehanna Synod was fairly
routine until a
police investigation uncovered $1 million in missing funds traced to
the synod's former treasurer. Instantly, a crisis communication plan
went into place -- from press releases, to a press conference, to
synod-wide conference meetings, to telephoning 500 rostered leaders,
to statements, to Web postings. The crisis was hit head-on, and the
synod emerged with its credibility intact.
