| Approximate
Time: 25-30 minutes
This large group celebration is
designed to set the stage for a "Luther's Info Drive-thru"
event. It features five whimsical Lil' Buddies from the Back Pew who
will introduce some of the fundamental characteristics of the
Lutheran faith in a skit titled "The Big Race." Two new
songs will also be introduced and special reference will be given to
some child-friendly tools for nurturing a concrete understanding
about what it means to be a Christina from a Lutheran perspective.
Feel free to use any of these program offerings to nurture Lutheran
identity on other occasions throughout the year.

Set up an overhead projector. Trace
the design of Luther's Seal on Luther's Info Drive-thru pattern
sheet onto a transparency. Use newsprint or poster board to make a
large seal to hang or display in the center of your stage area.
Scan through the script for "The
Big Race." Recruit children, youth and adults who will be most willing to
portray the personalities of the characters in a dramatic way. You
may wish to invite someone to read the Philippians 3:12,14 at the
conclusion of this presentation (See the "Lessons,
Songs and Prayers" sheet.) Gather the necessary props and
accessories. You might even consider making a few simple boxcars out
of cardboard boxes to help set the context for the skit. Be sure to
schedule a time to rehearse the skit on the "stage" you
will use for the actual presentation.
Become familiar with the new song
titled "I'm a Lutheran."
Plan to teach your participants the first verse and the chorus as
you introduce the overall theme for this event. There is also a new
verse to accompany the song "I am a C-H." It was written
to nurture a sense Lutheran identity within the context of Christian
community. Both songs are printed on the "Lessons,
Songs and Prayers" sheet. You may also wish to display them
in large print with pictures or symbols for young children to
follow.
Prepare a sample of the "Keys to
the Faith" craft and the "I'm A
Lutheran" passport/coloring book to display as you present
an overview of your event. Scan through the entire program to
understand and more fully appreciate how the keys, the
passport/coloring book, the songs and the Welcome Center activities
complement the theme of the program, maintain a sense of continuity
between the various components of the program and ultimately,
provide concrete, visual aids for nurturing a "big
picture" understanding of the Lutheran faith. The activity
description sheets for the Welcome Center gathering activities will
give you options for introducing the keys and the passport.
Note: You may want to recruit
someone to portray Martin Luther to be the "MC" for the
entire event. You might have him
 |
Greet
participants as they gather. |
 |
Provide
an introduction to the overall program during your large group
presentation. |
 |
Portray
the character of Luther in the "Cruisin' with
Luther" Info Drive-thru Center. |
It might also be helpful to invite
this character to promote your event during Sunday School or Worship
or Special Meetings or fellowship gatherings. |
