Campus Ministry Conference: Centennial Celebration
Expanding Minds, Deepening Faith, Inspiring Service
June 25-29, 2007

Loyola University – Water Tower Campus
26 East Pearson Street, Chicago, Illinois

Information You Need to Know
We are excited that this year’s Campus Ministry Conference and Centennial Celebration will be held in the heart of the loop, near Michigan Avenue. The Loyola University Water Tower Campus will provide us access to the city and all it has to offer. It also puts us within a very short walking distance from Fourth Presbyterian Church where our Celebration Worship Service will be; and to the Westin, where the Celebration Banquet will be held.

This year’s conference is one day longer (4 nights) to allow us to have more time with the presenters, alumni, and friends of campus ministry. You will see that reflected in the increased cost of the event.

Also, we are offering alumni of campus ministry a special program of events that begins on Wednesday. And of course they will be part of the Worship and Celebration Banquet. We hope a large number of alumni will be with us.

Christian Scharen
Christian Scharen
Chris serves as Director of the Faith as a Way of Life/Pastoral Excellence Program and Assistant Professor (Adjunct) of Congregational Studies and Practical Theology at Yale Divinity School. The mission of the Faith as a Way of Life Program is to equip pastors for excellence in the central task of Christian ministry: helping to mediate faith to persons, communities, and cultures as a life-integrating and life-transforming reality.

Chris also teaches practical theology courses at Yale Divinity School. His scholarly work centers on the Christian church and its relation to culture.

His most recent book, One Step Closer: Why U2 Matters to Those Seeking God, is a theological evocation of the Christian faith seen through the lens of the world’s biggest rock ‘n roll band, U2. He has also authored Public Worship and Public Work: Culture and Commitment in Local Congregational Life (2004), Married in the Sight of God: Theology, Ethics, and Church Debates over Homosexuality (2001), as well as many articles in scholarly and popular journals.

Rev. Terry L. MacArthur
Terry is a missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church assigned to the “Fusterie Project” in Geneva, Switzerland. Housed in the fusterie – an old church in downtown Geneva used for concerts and exhibitions – the project involves the creation of alternative worship for youth and young adults in the area. Previously Terry served as the worship consultant to the World Council of Churches in Geneva.

Terry is noted for his skills at leading congregations to learn music from a culture not their own. In the World Council of Church, he was known as an animateur, someone who animated the participation of all the people in worship. He is constantly searching for songs and prayers that are possible to use across cultural boundaries. In addition he plays the organ, the piano, and a variety of rhythm instruments.
