Ministry Advancement
The Office of Campus Ministry Advancement operates within the
Vocation and Education unit of the ELCA.
The primary focus of the office is:
-
To
support local campus ministries in the generation of resources;
-
To
provide materials for use by local staff and governing boards;
-
To
provide training and education on local or regional levels;
and
-
To
evaluate materials and fund raising efforts generated by local
ministries.
A National Advisory Committee for
Campus Ministry Advancement began in April, 2000. Persons who serve on this Committee are invited because of
their expertise, experience and enthusiastic support of the mission of
campus ministry. Members of
the Committee are Melvin George, Jan Loomis, Keith Nelson,
Tecla Sund Reklau, Alan Seagren, Anne C. Stephens, Martha Taylor, Sue
Rothmeyer and Galen Hora
We
Care for the Future
We Care for the Future is the
endowment program of Lutheran Campus Ministry.
Begun in 1985, this national program was designed to provide an
opportunity for congregations, alumni, parents, faculty, students and
friends to support campus ministry now and in the future through their
gifts to the endowment. Local
campus ministry agencies are encouraged to build their own endowments,
with the investment support of the ELCA Foundation.
Earnings from these investments are returned to the ministries
for budget support, while the principal remains intact in perpetuity.
Local campus ministry agencies that are interested in establishing an
endowment through We Care for the Future may contact the
Advancement Office.
Fund raising is a person with a cause asking a
person of concern to share in responding to a human or social need.
Henry Russo
Fund Raising as Stewardship
From the Christian perspective fund raising or development is
essentially stewardship. It
arises out of our gratitude for what God has done among us in Jesus
Christ. It is our desire to
manage carefully and responsibly the gifts God has given us.
Biblically the steward is the manager of the household.
We assume that role when we are employed as staff or serve as
members of boards and committees. The resources we have been given to do our ministry are to be
managed in thoughtful and careful ways, and whenever possible. They must
be increased, as in the parable of the talents.
Moreover, we are asked as part of our mission to invite and involve
others in what God is doing through our ministry.
So we encourage others to participate in our ministries in many
ways, not the least of which is to support our work through financial
contributions. In so doing,
we receive not only a persons contribution but their active
investment in our mission as partners in Christs work.
As stewardship, fund raising has strong mission implications.
