Servant Work Camp

The Servant Work Camp is an opportunity to serve others while enjoying the fellowship of each other and sharing in the ministry of Christ. You will assist families and the elderly in Effingham County (northwest of Savannah, Georgia) by performing repairs, painting, yard work and other tasks that they are unable to do themselves and cannot afford to hire someone to have it done. Hard work, but fun and gratifying. Your group will be responsible for its own linens and transportation. The retreat center provides materials, tools, supervision, lodging and meals. Evenings will be free to enjoy the retreat center, visit Historic Savannah, Tybee Beach or Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Evening Bible study classes are available when requested in advance.

"Faces of Christ"

This program promises to be a fun and exciting week for senior high campers. Youth leaders will have time to hit the beach with their high school youth group and explore deeper what it means to be a servant. The group will spend a week working at different direct-service agencies in the Wilmington area and see the face of Christ in the faces of their neighbors. The week also has time spent on group building, surfing, exploring Wilmington and hanging out a the beach. Each event is somewhat different depending upon our ability to match services with the needs of the people with whom we are working. Past projects have included helping with "meals on Wheels," beach renewal trail maintenance at a the State park, spending time with the nursing home resident and helping at a soup kitchen.

Summer only (Sunday afternoon-Friday noon)

Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network

Gleaning is the Biblical practice of hand gathering crops left after harvest. The Gleaning Network coordinates volunteer gleaners, growers, and distribution agencies to provide fresh produce for America's hungry people. Growers offer their fields and orchards for hand gleaning by volunteers from church, schools, civic and other groups. The salvaged produce is donated to local food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and other agencies for free distribution to hungry children and adults. Tens of thousands of volunteers each year hand pick more than 15 million pounds of food to help relieve hunger in their own communities. The Gleaning Network operates in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and in selected areas of 20 states. Interested groups should contact the Society of St. Andrew office for information about gleaning in their area.

Harvest of Hope provides participants with a basis for an ongoing commitment to responsible living in a hungry world. Designed for youth, young adults and intergenerational groups, weekend and weeklong mission work camps are conducted in the summer and fall at various locations. Interested groups should contact the Society of St. Andrew office early in the year to register for Harvest of Hope.
