Stay in the heart of New York city while integrating community service and faith development. Together we will live the questions as we work, pray and play: Is the city really different from the suburb?" How can so many people living in close proximity get along? Does the call of God to love thy neighbor mean neighbors of other faiths and experience? We will put the "cross" in cross-cultural as we pick up our crosses of service and compassion and work in soup kitchens, homeless shelters and in inner-city churches. You will be transformed as you worship with inter-faith neighbors as you confront your fears and pre-conceived notions, and as you engage in this remarkable city.

Koinonia NYC - a ministry of Koinonia-Highland Lake, New York, will work with your group to create an event that will suit your needs. In partnership with Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY), Seafarers & International House, and area congregations, Koinonia NYC will coordinate an opportunity for your group to assist New York City residents in community-building. Faith based conversations, worship disciplines, Bible study, service projects and a "Faith Walk" at Ground Zero will provide great opportunities for learning and spiritual growth. Housing options are arranged throughout Manhattan and the greater New York area, depending on group needs. The combination of service time in the urban environment of New York City and retreat time in our wilderness setting provides a balanced spiritual experience. Servant Events designed to your groups needs are available year-round with expanded opportunities during July and August.

Combine service projects and/or adventure activities with a focus on faith development and group-building for an inspiring and transformative experience! Cross Roads Outdoor Ministries will create a custom-designed week of service and/or adventure based upon your group's preferences and needs. We partner with a variety of non-profits doing service projects in the Metro New York City area. The program can be also be designed to include high adventure experiences, such as rafting, cave exploring, backpacking, mountain camping, horseback riding, high ropes activities, rock climbing, canoeing and/or beach trips to the Atlantic Ocean. Programs are offered any week or weekend during the summer.

Harvest of Hope Mission Work Camps Harvest of Hope provides gleaning and study mission work camps that educate youth and adults about the realities of hunger, its causes and effects. Harvest of Hope combines gleaning (salvaging fresh vegetables and fruits from fields to provide food to hungry people,) activities that help explore hunger issues and worship to build a Christian community of service to help meet the needs of those in our world who live with hunger and poverty. Harvest of Hope provides participants with a basis for an ongoing commitment to responsible living in a hungry world. Designed for youth, young adults and intergenerational groups, weekend and weeklong mission work camps are conducted in the summer and fall at various locations. Interested groups should contact the Society of St. Andrew office early in the year to register for Harvest of Hope.

Gleaning is the Biblical practice of hand gathering crops left after harvest. The Gleaning Network coordinates volunteer gleaners, growers, and distribution agencies to provide fresh produce for America's hungry people. Growers offer their fields and orchards for hand gleaning by volunteers from church, schools, civic and other groups. The salvaged produce is donated to local food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and other agencies for free distribution to hungry children and adults. Tens of thousands of volunteers each year hand pick more than 15 million pounds of food to help relieve hunger in their own communities. The Gleaning Network operates in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and in selected areas of 20 states. Interested groups should contact the Society of St. Andrew office for information about gleaning in their area.
