Spider Webs

Campers are fascinated by the spider webs that appear all over camp during the summer, so give them an opportunity to practice making their own webs.  Divide the campers into pairs to work on their webs.  Either give them a foot wide circle of vine to build their web, or for more challenge let them find their own spot in the forest.  Supply them with as much string as they need and give them five to ten minutes to complete the project.  To test the webs, have opponents try to throw ten small pebbles or pine cones through the web without touching the web itself.  You will have to be the judge of contact or not.  You can use a tournament style elimination to pick the best web out of the entire group.  For that to work, let team A throw at Team B’s web and vice versa.  If time and interest allow, go for a hike to observe the patterns of spiders’ webs in your camp.
