affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Persons interested in applying for these positions should contact
the outdoor ministry organizations directly.
Outdoor ministry boards seeking executive directors should contact
the outdoor ministries staff in the churchwide office and request
assistance in filling these open positions. A member of the staff
will work with the board to review the situation, update the
position description, and develop an effective search process.

Executive directors function as the chief executive
officer for the organization with responsibility for overall leadership in the
organization. Responsibilities typically include leadership in the areas of
administration, program, financial development and planning. Executive directors
report directly to the board of directors.

Executive
Director for Shetek Lutheran Ministries (SLM) located in Slayton, Minnesota
Responsibilities:
Maintain the mission, goals and objectives of SLM; develop long and
short range plans, implement budget and strategic plans; develop reviews
and reports for the SLM board of directors; maintain ACA accreditation
standards. The Executive Director will be responsible to recruit,
train, supervise, contract and provide an annual review for all staff;
design, implement and evaluate all programs in coordination with the
program committee; supervise SLM financial development; serve as a
resource to congregations; develop and implement annual and long range
site plan; develop and maintain contacts with congregations, pastors,
delegates and campers; represent the camp at conference and synod
events; develop publicity for programs, serve as the spokesperson for
the ministry of SLM. The Executive Director is directly responsible to
the board of directors.
Qualifications:
The Executive Director will have a commitment to the ministry of the
ELCA and its partnership with SLM; have a firm understanding of the
intention to practice Lutheran traditions and theology; provide
leadership in Christian commitment and respect for God’s creation; have
expertise or training in financial planning, fund-raising and budget
management; have the ability and commitment to manage a flexible,
demanding schedule; have the ability to delegate responsibility and earn
the respect of staff, demonstrate technical expertise; provide
leadership skills in team building; possess organizational, adaptive and
follow through skills. BA degree and prior experience in Church Camping
Ministry is required.

Vicar and Executive Director of St.
Nicholas Episcopal Church and Camp Noel Porter in Tahoe City, California
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director of Camp Noel Porter will oversee the program and
facilities located at Tahoe City, California. Working with the CNP
Board and the Bishop of the Diocese of Northern California the Director
will coordinate staff and chaplains for a summer camping program for
children and youth; raise funds; coordinate and develop use of the
facilities for church groups and other organizations and promote Camp
Noel Porter throughout Northern California. As Vicar of St.
Nicholas Episcopal Church, the pastor or priest will preside and preach
at worship, provide for pastoral care, teach and form persons in the
Christian faith and work with the ministers of the congregation to
develop mission and ministry.
Qualifications:
An ordained minister in good standing of the ELCA or the Episcopal
Church. Previous
outdoor ministry experience including experience in budget development
and management, raising private funds, personnel management, and strong
communication skills. ACA knowledge and a bachelor’s degree preferred.

Meets diocesan guidelines and includes a four bedroom house and full

outdoor ministry site providing leadership in the areas of
administration. Site and associate directors might also have

Vice President for Program and Guest Relations,
Lutheridge+Lutherock Ministries, Inc., in Arden, North Carolina
Lutheridge+Lutherock Ministries is a ministry of the North Carolina,
South Carolina, Southeastern and Florida/Bahamas Synods. 25,000
campers and guests are served annually at Lutheridge, Lutherock,
Lutheranch and Lutheroad programs throughout the southeast.
Responsibilities: The Vice President
shall be responsible for insuring all campers and guests have a
quality experience in Christian community while attending Lutheridge,
Lutherock, Lutheranch and Lutheroad. This is a new position with the
unique opportunity to lead the program development at Lutheranch, a
new outdoor ministry site. Because of the new 500-person
capacity "Faith Center" at Lutheridge there is the opportunity to
expand programs and conferences and at Lutherock the need is to
develop year-round programs.
Qualifications: The Vice President shall have extensive experience, understanding and
enthusiasm for the unique ministry of church camps and conference
centers. Candidates shall have knowledge and skills for staff supervision
and growth, program design and implementation, working with volunteers
and committees, directing guest services and marketing/public relations. This position is part-time.

Program Director for Red Willow
Ministries in Binford, North Dakota
Red Willow Bible Camp, a camp of the
ELCA, is located nine miles north of Binford, North Dakota, on beautiful
Red Willow Lake. The camp is 45 minutes from Devils Lake,
which is an 1 1/2 hour drive from Grand Forks and a 2 hour drive from
Fargo. The Bible camp is located on beautiful Red Willow Lake, a
spring fed lake surrounded by an oak tree forest.
Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for our summer camping program;
hiring, training and supervising summer staff and implementing on and
off-site summer camps. Develop and implement youth retreats
and activities for the fall, winter and spring. Work closely with
volunteers and church leaders throughout the year.
Professional training, education and experience preferred.

with people of all ages in outdoor setting; enthusiasm about working with

Responsibilities: Group leader and
teacher in two and three day residential programs; develop and present

Qualifications:

structure of an association ministry, compatible with ELCA, LCMS and

Outdoor School Instructor positions, EL Camino
Pines, Southern California
El Camino Pines Outdoor School is a
residential program that emphasizes environmental education and
community-building experiences primarily to upper-elementary age students
located in the Los Padres National Forest, about two hours north of Los
Angeles.
Our mission is to provide quality learning experiences in the natural
environment that teach students appreciation for nature and each other.
Responsibilities: Outdoor school instructors will lead
programs and teach environmental education classes to grade school and
junior high students from Christian and secular schools throughout southern
California; participate in the facilitation of numerous ELCA youth events as
well as programmed retreats throughout the year.
Qualifications:
Understanding the philosophy and mission of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the programs of LRCC and EL
Camino Pines. Strong commitment to the care and appreciation of God's creation and
desire to communicate and practice that with other staff and students. At least two years of post-high school experience college or work.
Leadership experience, camp experience, and an undergraduate degree are
preferred. Must have interest in living and working in a "servant oriented"
Christian community. Must be flexible and willing to help in all areas of camp life.

Responsibilities: Be a
"Tree-Hugger." Motivate public and parochial school
students to learn about God’s creation and thereby becoming

living history; support and work with other team members.
Qualifications: Candidates must
have a four year degree, or equivalent experience, in fields

ministry. Candidate should have experience in youth camping, teaching
or recreational programming and demonstrate an ability to be
hospitable and a team player. Some positions are seasonal, some are nine-month with

Program
Assistant Internship Description:
The purposes of this position is to provide an opportunity for
each applicant to experience all aspects of year-round outdoor
ministry and to experience the partnership between outdoor
ministry and the synods, congregations, and organizations of the
ELCA.
Rainbow Trail’s goals are to support and facilitate each
applicant in his/her decision to make outdoor ministry a career
and to enhance the applicant’s ministry skills throughout the
greater church.
Program
Assistant:
Retreat hosting: Preparation prior to a group’s
arrival (setting up coffee bars, turning on heat, shoveling
walks); greeting and hosting each group throughout the weekend
(kitchen help, light maintenance); leading the group
programmatically (games, worship, campfires, archery, hikes, and
environmental activities); clean-up and close-down site after a
group leaves (trash run, general cleaning.)
Promotion:
Assist in writing newsletters and developing brochures in
conjunction with the Executive Director and Assistant
Directors. Assist in updating the web site. Travel to synod
congregations to promote camp at Sunday schools and worships.
Recruiting:
Help prepare for recruiting at Midwest college fairs. Re-produce
applications and reference forms, and make pre-visit telephone calls
to campus career centers. Possibly visit Colorado schools for
campus interviews. Send out service agreement packets, file
completed agreements, and mail follow-up paperwork. Compile and
mail staff training letters.
Administrative:
Spend midweek days that are not days off in the office to accomplish
necessary clerical and phone work. Write and send out contracts to
groups; compose letters for current and future programs; file and
organize information; attend occasional board meetings and research
information in order to improve Rainbow Trail programming.
Special Events:
Attend events such as Rainbow Trail’s Day Camp Training, Bible Study
Writer's Retreat, off-site retreats & workdays, AdventFest, the
Rocky Mountain Synod Thanksgiving Youth Gathering, Synod Assembly,
and Thrivent (formerly AAL/Lutheran Brotherhood) events, where an
RTLC presence is needed.
Compensation:

board provided on-site, health insurance, training sessions
Monthly half-day
training sessions lead by the Executive Director, Assistant
Directors, and other full-time staff, on topics relevant to Rainbow
Trail’s ministry and outdoor ministry as a full-time profession.
