The installation of Mark S. Hanson as ELCA presiding bishop was held October 6, 2001, at the Rockefeller Chapel on the campus of the University of Chicago, Illinois.


 

Some highlights of Bishop Hanson's travel for 2006:

  • Meetings with leaders in these synods – Northern Texas-Northern Louisiana Synod, Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod, Southwestern Texas Synod, Pacifica Synod, Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod, Nebraska Synod, East-Central Synod of Wisconsin, Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, Northeastern Iowa Synod, Southeastern Iowa Synod, Western Iowa Synod, and the New England Synod.
     
  • Preaching at congregations in Kentucky, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Minnesota.
     
  • Duties as President of the Lutheran World Federation, including visits to India and Europe.
     
  • Duties as part of the ELCA delegation to the World Council of Churches Assembly in Brazil.
     
  • Important ELCA events – Connecting Institutions (presidents and board chairs of seminaries, colleges, Lutheran Social Ministry organizations, and outdoor ministries), the July Youth Gatherings, the July Global Mission Event, Hein Frey Lectures, graduation at Wartburg College, and the installation of bishop of the Southeast Michigan Synod.
     
  • Meetings with military chaplains, senior pastors of large membership congregations, Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod leaders, Lutheran World Relief board, Augustana Heritage Association, and leaders of The Episcopal Church.
