WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY TO YOU?
Are you befriending someone?
A friend loves at all times,
and kinsfolk are born to share adversity.
Proverbs 17:17
Then turning to the disciples, Jesus said to them privately,
"Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and
kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did
not hear it."
Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher,"
he said, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is
written in the law? What do you read there?" He answered, "You shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and
with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You
have given the right answer; do this, and you will live."
But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, "And who is
my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho,
and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him
half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed
by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed
by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him,
he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine
on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, 'Take care of
him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.' Which of these
three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the
robbers?" He said, "The one who showed him mercy." Jesus said to him,
"Go and do likewise."
Luke 10:24-37
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I
have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you
so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.
"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have
loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer,
because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends,
because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not
choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last,
so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these
commands so that you may love one another.
John 15:10-17
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church at
Cenchreae, so that you may welcome her in the Lord as is fitting for the saints, and help
her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a benefactor of many and of
myself as well.
