Guiding the Life of this Church

voting.jpg (7057 bytes) Voting members--selected by the 65 synodical assemblies--will devote their days at the assembly to making the decisions that guide the life of this church. These persons will spend their days:

Hearing the reports of the officers of the ELCA.

Hearing reports and voting on important issues such as:

Toward Sufficient, Sustainable Livelihood for All, a proposed social statement on economic life;

	Following our Shepherd to Full Communion, recommendations for full communion between the ELCA and the Moravian Church;
	Called to Common Mission: A Lutheran Proposal for a Revision of the Concordat of Agreement, recommendations for full Communion between the ELCA and the Episcopal Church.

Hearing reports on the ministry of this church in several areas; including:

	Proposed social statement on Health Care;
	Disabilities ministry and deaf ministry;
	Women and children living in poverty;
	2000 Congregations Project;
	Conversations related to Gay and Lesbian Persons;
	Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification;
	Ministry in Daily Life;
	Urban Strategy;
	Final Report on the Study of Ministry.

	Hearing and directing appropriate responses to resolutions brought forward by voting members
	Responding to reports on the seven Initiatives for a New Century.
	Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the World Hunger Appeal.
	Electing members of boards and special committees.
	Electing a new editor for The Lutheran magazine
	Approving the biennial budget of this church.
	Voting on Synodical Memorials - see below to download According to the constitution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Churchwide Assembly shall "receive and consider proposals from synod assemblies (ELCA 12.21.c). A memorial is understood to mean a resolution adopted by a Synod Assembly that specifically addresses the Churchwide Assembly, requesting that a particular action be taken.
