Florida-Bahamas Synod Welcomes
Assembly
News Release
Bishop of ELCA Florida-Bahamas Synod Welcomes Assembly

The Florida-Bahamas Synod has
been preparing for the arrival the ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Orlando
for well over a year.
“We started at the Synod Assembly in Daytona Beach [in May 2004] with a
workshop we called ‘The Lutherans are coming,’” said Norman Figy,
volunteer coordinator for the synod.
Since that time 312 volunteers have come together to perform the over
1,400 volunteer tasks that will be required during the assembly and to
help Bishop Edward Benoway, the synod staff and the 220 churches of the
Florida-Bahamas to welcome the 2000 voting members and guests of the
2005 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.

Prayer
The Florida-Bahamas Synod
web site invites people to pray:
Almighty and gracious God, bless the work of the ELCA as it
meets in Assembly this week in Orlando. Fill the gathering
with the presence of your Holy Spirit to inform and guide
all voting members. Endow their work with a love for
mission, a love for one another and for all humankind, and a
love for Christ. And may the results of their meeting truly
reflect your will. Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

Bishop for Administration Ken Aicher. “It’s been a lot of hard work and
preparation during this past year, but we’re ready and anxious to
begin.”
