What's on the agenda?

The agenda includes several significant items:

  • Election of a vice president. The assembly will elect the successor to Dr. Addie Butler, the ELCA's current vice president, who has indicated she will not stand for re-election to this important volunteer position.
  • Election of the editor of The Lutheran magazine. The Rev. David Miller has been nominated for a second four-year term in this position.
  • Action on an evangelism vision for the ELCA. This work was set in motion by the 2001 Churchwide Assembly. The most current draft can be found at www.elca.org/visionevangelism
  • Action on an ELCA social statement on Health and Health care. More information can be found at www.elca.org/dcs/healthcare.html.
  • A progress report on ELCA Sexuality Studies. The 2001 Churchwide Assembly mandated these studies and a full report to the 2005 assembly. Read more about the studies at www.elca.org/faithfuljourney.
  • Reports from the officers of the ELCA: Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson, Vice President Addie Butler, Secretary Lowell Almen, and Treasurer Christina Jackson-Skelton.
  • Consideration of constitutional amendments.
  • Approval of the biennial ELCA church-wide budget.
  • Memorials (resolutions) forwarded to the churchwide assembly from 2002 and 2003 synod assemblies.
  • Resolutions from voting members.
  • The results of the strategic planning process currently underway will provide a framework for the actions of the church-wide assembly. Consult the ELCA's planning Web site for updates on the process at www.elca.org/planning.
