Pray, for the Work of the Churchwide Assembly!

God of Truth, Hear our Prayer.

		You are invited to pray regularly for the work of the Churchwide Assembly, both at home and in your congregation. The following petition can be used every Sunday beginning on the Festival of Pentecost until the completion of the assembly.
	In succeeding weeks, another petition will be provided for use in the Prayer of the Church. The forms of the petitions follow the pattern suggested in Sundays and Seasons for each week.
	From July 8 - August 12 please pray the following prayer: Pour out your wisdom upon the members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, especially the voting members of the August Churchwide Assembly. Bless their deliberations, guide their decisions, inspire their prayers, that in all they do they may bear witness to the truth of the Gospel so that all the members of your Church may be strengthened and encouraged to serve the peoples of the earth. God of truth, hear our prayer. August 19, 2001 (Pentecost XI) A Prayer for the Ministry of the newly-elected Presiding Bishop Grant to Mark S. Hanson, the newly-elected presiding bishop of our church, the gifts of your Holy Spirit, that he may have a right judgment in all things and be enabled to discern and to use the resources that have been given to us all for the good of your faithful people and the extension of your kingdom.
