The Rev. Mark Hanson was elected presiding bishop, with 533 of 1,032 votes cast. He introduced his wife Ione to the assembly as he accepted the "call."

Other churches with which we are in full communion, including our sister churches in the Lutheran World Federation, sent greetings. Here we see President Huberto Kirccheim of the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brazil addressing the assembly.

The stage backdrop reflects the Assembly theme on a giant scale.

Not all voting takes place electronically.

Between plenary sessions, presiding bishop-elect Hanson had his first news conference.

Brandon Morton, a poet from Chicago, led the daily 
Bible study.

Assembly-goers line up early and often for free coffee in the County Fair,

including Pastor Steven Silver of Portersville, Calif., who tests the slogan "Good to the last drop."

Jim Childs is determined eventually to hit that bell!

In fact, many different activities took place at the County Fair, including singing some old favorites in the Archives exhibit.
