This Augustana Synod congregation, known as the Svenska Ev. Lutherska Metropolitan-Forsamlingen at its organization in 1895, constructed its first building, pictured above, in 1900.

A larger facility was built in 1907. A basement was added in 1920.


Assaria Lutheran Church, Assaria, Kans., 1916.
An Augustana Synod congregation organized in 1875, Assaria Lutheran constructed its first building, pictured at right, in 1877. Its second building, pictured at left, was built in 1915-16. The older facility was later torn down.


Fridhem Lutheran Church, Funk, Neb., ca. 1890.

Founded in 1879 and a member of the Augustana Synod as of 1883, the congregation erected its first structure, made out of sod, in 1879. The 40' x 20' building was used until 1891, when a frame church was built.

Fridhem’s frame building was moved to Funk in 1910. It was added to and remodeled in 1963 and 1984. Fridhem means "Home of Peace."


Nathanael Lutheran Church, near Alcester, Lincoln Co., S.D., ca. 1886.
Nathanael was established in 1885 as a member of the Augustana Synod. Its first building, built in 1886, was destroyed in a windstorm in 1902.

Nathanael’s first building was replaced in 1903 by the structure pictured here. The congregation purchased a building in Alcester in 1918, and conducted services at both buildings until the country church was closed in 1952. A new facility was constructed in Alcester in 1960.
