Founded in 1856 by Pastor Arne Boyum, later president of Hauge's Synod, Arendahl celebrated its centennial in 1956 with Evangelical Lutheran Church president Fredrik Schiotz, along with members and pastors, past and present.
Anniversaries, building dedications, district conventions, national festivals, and other occasions drew large crowds as members, past and present, celebrated their congregations.

Fredsville Danish Ev. Lutheran Church, Fredsville, Iowa, ca. 1900.
Organized in 1871 near Cedar Falls, Iowa, this congregation was a member of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. The building pictured above, the congregation's second, was built in 1885. A new building was constructed in 1960-61. The 1885 building was torn down in 1961. The congregation now has 654 members.

Delegates at the 1884 convention of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church sought to find land to unite scattered Danes into one community. The Danebod congregation was organized in 1886, while the Danebod Folk School was opened in 1888. Danebod, meaning the "one who saves the Danes," eventually became the largest congregation in the DELC.

Berea Lutheran Church dedication, Chappell, Neb., 1922.
Founded in 1887, this Augustana Synod congregation constructed its first building, built of sod, in 1884. A second building was constructed in 1888. The third, pictured above, in 1922.
