Asha George-Guiser - 1st Asian, LCA, 1982

The Rev. Asha George-Guiser is the first Asian woman ordained by the Lutheran Church in America, May 15, 1982, a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. She was an associate pastor with St. James Lutheran Church, Coopersburg, Pennsylvania and Christ, Kulpsville, Pennsylvania, before taking a position with ELCA Region 8 in 1988. From 1994-2000, she was with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod as assistant to the bishop. Since 2002, she has served as Family and Marriage Therapist with the Council for Relationships, Philadelphia.
