Janith Otte-Murphy - AELC, 1977

The Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches, formed in 1976, also moved quickly to ordain its first woman clergy. Janith Otte-Murphy was ordained by the Pacific Synod of the church on October 30, 1977. She served as counselor at the Kairos Home for Girls, Oakland, California, and as associate pastor, University Lutheran Chapel, Berkeley. She is shown with the Rev. Gustav Schultz, pastor of the chapel. Pastor Otte-Murphy left the roster of the ELCA in 1989.
