Immanuel Deaconess Hospital Founded in 1885

Photograph of a typical ward at the Immanuel Deaconess Hospital, founded in 1889, now part of Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska. The Augustana Lutheran Church deaconesses were trained at the motherhouse located with the Omaha hospital as well as Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. The first deaconesses to be consecrated and work in the hospital were trained in Philadelphia.
