Graduates of Emmy Evald Girl's School

During Emmy Evald’s 43 year tenure as President of the Augustana Lutheran Church Women’s Home and Foreign Missionary Society, a total of 74 buildings were established: 13 in the United States, 11 in India, 38 in China, 2 in the Holy Land, 9 in Africa and 1 in Canada.

Depicted here are junior high school graduates of the Emmy Evald Girls’ School, Hsuchang, China, ca. early 1930’s. Founded in 1922, the school became co-educational in 1939 and was renamed Pei Deh Middle School.
