Emmy Evald, Founder of the Women's Missionary Society of the Augustana Synod

Emmy Carlsson Evald, 1857-1946, was founder and president for 43 years of the Women's Missionary Society of the Augustana Synod. She was also deeply involved in many other charitable, social, cultural and religious institutions and organizations, including Augustana Hospital in Chicago, the Lutheran Woman's League, Woman’s Home Association of Chicago and American Sons and Daughters of Sweden. She was president of the Lutheran Women’s Congress at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and in 1906 she became a charter member of the International Suffrage Association. For many years she was a member of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Augustana Church.
