Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church

Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized on October 24, 1905 as a member of the General Synod. The congregation purchased the northeast corner of Magnolia and Balmoral Avenues, at 5409 N. Magnolia Ave., in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. The original building (seen at far right in picture above) was constructed and dedicated on Dec. 2, 1906. Soon a larger addition was added. The new building (pictured above) was dedicated on June 24, 1917.

On June 22, 1917, at the 48th Biennial Convention of the General Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church meeting at Unity, the proposal for the formation of the United Lutheran Church in America, through the merger of the General Synod, General Council and United Synod in the South, was introduced.
