Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, a
Hauge's Synod congregation, began as the Chicago evangelisk lutherske praekeplads
(Evangelical Lutheran Preaching Place) in 1839 led by Elling Eielsen. In 1857 the
congregation officially organized as Trefoldighed (Trinity). The church was located at
West Grand (now Indiana) and Peoria (387 W. Grand) by 1869. Trinity's second church
building was constructed on that location in 1869 and a third was also built there in
1884. Trinity's fourth building (pictured above) was built in 1910 at Wabansia Ave. & Richmond St. (1701 N. Richmond). Trinity was a member of Eielsen's Synod from its organization in 1846 and continued as a member of Hauge's Synod after the new constitution was adopted and the name of the synod was changed in 1876. Trinity was the home for the Hauge's College and Eielsen's Seminary from 1870 until they were moved to Red Wing, Minn., in 1876. Bethlehem Lutheran Church was organized from Trinity in 1870 and served by Rev. Samuel M. Krogness, who served Trinity from 1866 to 1869. The congregation dissolved in 1958. Pastors
