St. Matthew's English Lutheran Church |
|||||||||||||||||
![]() St. Matthew's English Lutheran Church was organized on March 20, 1898 as a member of the General Council. The cornerstone of the first church was laid on Flournoy Street and Kilpatrick Avenue (previously 47th Ave.) on July 31, 1898. On September 18th the church was dedicated and a few days later became part of the Chicago Synod. Early in 1906 two lots were purchased on the northeast corner of Kilbourn and Van Buren (at 351 S. Kilbourn), and a new church (pictured at top) was built there and dedicated on January 10, 1909. A new unit was added in 1928. It disbanded in 1961.
