![]() St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized under the direction of pre-theological student Robbin Skyles on November 12, 1943 as a member of the United Lutheran Church in America. It was a reorganization of Holy Communion (1935, ULCA), which had disbanded in 1941. The congregation purchased St. Edmund's Episcopal Church building at 5831 S. Indiana Ave. The building (pictured above) was rededicated on June 6, 1948. In 1957 the congregation purchased the building of Golgotha Evangelical Lutheran Church at 8000 S. Michigan Ave.
