St. Andrews English Ev. Lutheran Church

  St. Andrew's Lutheran Church
Organized in 1924 as a member of the United Lutheran Church in America, St. Andrews English Evangelical Lutheran Church was located in the Portage Park area of Chicago. Led by the Synodical Board of Home Missions of the Illinois Synod and its district superintendent, Rev. T.B. Hersch, the first service was held in February 1924. Finding enough support amongst the community, a bungalow church (below) was erected in 1924 on the southeast corner of W. Addison St. and N. Linder Ave., at 5447 W. Addison.

A larger facility (interior pictured at top) was added to the existing structure in 1955.

In 1998 St. Andrew's merged with Gladstone Park (1936, ULCA), Holy Communion (1966, LCA), Medill Avenue (1927, NLCA), Nebo (1901, Augustana), Our Lord's American (1934, ALC), Our Saviour's English (1909, United Norwegian), and Peace (1923, ULCA) to form United in Faith Lutheran Church, which continued to worship in St. Andrew's old facility for a period.
