Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer

  Redeemer Lutheran Church
The English Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer was organized in 1905 after members of Wicker Park Lutheran Church living in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, requested their pastor to begin holding services in Austin. Originally meeting in a rented store, the congregation was organized on March 30, 1905 as a member of the Chicago Synod of the General Council. Lots were purchased on the northwest corner of Chicago and Lockwood Avenues, at 900 N. Lockwood. The first church building (pictured above) was dedicated on March 21, 1909. The original church building was replaced in 1929.

On Dec. 31, 1975 Redeemer merged into Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 7116 W. Palmer St.
