![]() Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized as the English Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in 1874. It grew out of the first English Lutheran congregation in Chicago, which was organized in 1855 and disbanded in 1861. This congregation was located on Monroe St. Rev. Dr. Passavant, who had been involved in that congregation, reorganized it in his new hospital at Dearborn and Ontario St., as the Church of Mercy. The chapel that was erected was destroyed in the Chicago Fire in 1871. The next building was built at Dearborn and Erie Streets. The congregation was incorporated as the Church of the Holy Trinity on September 9, 1874. In 1886 the congregation moved to a new building at LaSalle Ave. and Elm St. In 1912 St. Mark's English Evangelical Lutheran Church merged into Holy Trinity and the name was changed to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Holy Trinity is located at Addison St. and Maple Square Ave. Holy Trinity's web site at http://www.holytrinitychicago.org/.
