Frequently Asked Questions
4. How does the Farm Bill
address conservation and protection of land?
Farmers are among our nation’s best stewards the earth’s natural
resources, and privately owned crop, pasture and rangeland make up a
substantial part of the land base of our nation.
Farm bill programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives
program and Conservation Security Program reward and encourage
environmentally-sound land management practices, while ensuring
that our best farmland remains productive.
The Conservation Reserve Program and the Wetlands Reserve Program
pay farmers not to plant crops on the most sensitive, and least
productive, lands. By protecting marginal farmland, these
programs help to protect water quality, prevent soil erosion, and
provide habitat for wildlife.
