Eco-Justice Programs Announce 2008 Earth Day Resource

As people of faith, addressing climate change is justice issue. Water scarcity, drought, crop failure, increased disease, and flooding are just a few of the impacts those living in poverty around the world are and will feel from global climate change. This Earth Day, the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Programs are marking Earth Day Sunday (the Sunday closest to Earth Day) by recognizing the interconnectedness of poverty and climate change and offering a resource for worship, adult study, and youth activities. Copies will be available February 1, 2008. To obtain a copy visit www.nccecojustice.org . To pre-order a copy contact the Eco-Justice Program office at info@nccecojustice.org or 202-481-6943.

  • Water Fact Sheet
Water is life. Our bodies are largely made of water, as is much of the food we eat. Without water, we could not exist. Water is also a critical part of our spiritual life as Christians—it welcomes us into our life as Christians through baptism, and it forms a powerful metaphoric thread throughout the scriptures, symbolizing life, faith and the love of God.

Learn more about food, farming, and God's creation in a new Earth Day resource kit which includes sermon resources, a bulletin insert, and Sunday school and adult education activities. Earth Day is April 22, 2007 - download the National Council of Churches resource (pdf) for use on your congregation's designated Earth Day Sunday.

  • Eco-Palms
More than 300 million palm fronds are harvested each year for U.S. consumption alone - most of them for Palm Sunday. As you begin to plan your Lenten plans, consider the Lutheran World Relief program to help ensure the palm harvesters are earning a fair income for their labor, and the palms are being harvested in an environmentally sustainable way by visiting www.lwr.org/palms.
