A Christian Call to Faith Based Investing The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has a long history of working for justice and addressing the needs of the poor. Through the social policy of the church we attempt to understand the implications of our faith as it intersects with economic life.Through human decisions and actions, God is at work in economic life. Economic life is intended to be a means through which God’s purposes for humankind and creation are served. When this does not occur, as a church we cannot remain silent, because of who and whose we are. (Sufficient Sustainable Livelihood for All, 1999) Faithful stewardship demands equitable access to God’s gifts for all God’s people and sustainable care of God’s creation. Expression of the church’s concern is focused in the Division for Church in Society, through the Corporate Social Responsibility program. Screening, Shareholder Activism and Community Investing represent the active role that the church has as employer, consumer, investor, and a community of believers to pursue policies and practices that will lead to sufficient sustainable livelihood for all. "A Christian Call to Faith Based Investing" is a brief introduction to faith based investing, how it is relevant to our calling as Christians, and how the ELCA is involved in economic life.
